3. Sealing Sides & Magnetic Doorways
Sides Either Magnet to Another Panel or Snap to Structural Surface

Magnetic Doorways

Connecting two panels magnetically serves two purposes. Magnet doorways allow you to pass between panels but also help to create logical gathered swags by strategically creating panel breaks. Magnetic doorways are much easier to separate than unsnapping panels from a wall or column. It takes two panels to form a magnetic doorway and they overlap by 1 inch to seal.

Powerful Neodymium Magnets & Fiberglass Rods

These are NOT ordinary refrigerator magnets. Our rare-earth magnets are freakishly strong and seal doorways. You MUST ORDER enough magnets to space them every 12-18 inches depending upon your wind conditions. Read Magnet Warning Below!

Fiberglass rods insert vertically up into the side bindings to distribute the load on the magnets and complete the seal between magnets. For each 8ft tall magnetic door way set up, you'll need 10-16 magnets and 2 fiberglass rods ordered from the Attachment Items section of the store page.

Sealing Sides With Marine Snaps

Seal to a wall or column is with our stainless steel marine snaps. The female snap is fastened to any top, side, or bottom binding of a curtain panel. The male snap is on a 5/8" inch screw stud which can be screwed into wood surfaces. Some (regular-shaped) columns are perfectly straight and provide a suitable surface to snap to while others are lathed or tapered (irregularly-shaped). How to handle both column types.

Space snaps every 2-4 ft vertically depending upon wind conditions. Fiberglass rods will give you a clean edge when snapping to a vertical surface but are not absolutely necessary as they are with magnetic doorways. Special Adhesive Snaps are available for Aluminum & Vinyl Siding and some Masonry surfaces.

Don't be concerned about tiny gaps around the edges like lapped siding. A mosquito is D-U-M-B. It smells certain chemicals and vectors right towards you. Insects in search of food vector directly towards the food.

Placing Snaps The Easy Way

You will place your own snaps so that you have more control over placement. Consider using our FULLY REFUNDABLE $130 industrial snap tool that easily fastens a female snap in seconds. We aren't trying to sell you the tool, we just want to make your life easier and know that we'll get it back. You can order the tool Online under "Attachments" If you order snaps without the industrial tool, we will provide an economy tool that places a snap in a few minutes.

A Hybrid Trick - The Stucco Strip

Ideally, you don't want to have to unsnap your curtain to draw it open so you want to think about usability when dividing your project into connecting panels. A magnetic connection is far easier way to separate panels since you just "jerk and pull" to open. A magnetic connections only work between panels and NOT to fasten directly to a wall or column, but there is no reason a panel can't be a very narrow 3" wide strip of webbing that we've come to call a Stucco Strip. Why that name? We don't remember, but is also ordered from Attachment Items of store page.

Think of a stucco strip as a "mini panel". One edge of the 3" Stucco Strip snaps to a structural surface like a wall or column while the other edge is set up for a magnetic connection to a larger panel. The stucco strip stays snapped to the wall, but enables the larger panel to be drawn without snapping and unsnapping.

Magnet Warning!   Small Children & Pace Makers

These rare earth magnets are freakishly powerful and are made of a brittle neodymium metal. DO NOT let them "slam together" or they will crack. For the most part these magnets are embedded in the side binding of a curtain panel where they are padded and pose little risk, but we want you and yours safe!

If a small child decided to eat a magnet, it would likely pass. However, if the child decided it was tasty enough to eat another, the magnets could pinch the intestines which is VERY dangerous and would require surgery.

These magnets, should not be used in close proximity to a pace maker as they could potentially interfere with the pace maker. We recommend that you speak with your doctor. Read more. If this is of concern to you, call us and we will substitute a zipper door that is more difficult to use but non-magnetic.
