How to Keep Pollen Off Your Porch
Two Solutions With Dual Purposes

Porch Pollen

Each spring season, pollen can be a nuisance for both allergies and the endless cleaning required to keep pollen from invading your porch. Opening a door to your porch only brings the problem into your home making porches virtually unusable. Wouldn't it be nice to sit outside and enjoy the cascade of blooming spring colors.

Two Strategies For Preventing Porch Pollen

The most effective way to keep pollen off your porch is to place a physical barrier between you and the air borne pollen. It can be a modest investment for a relatively temporary problem so it might be wise to consider other possible uses for a physical barrier that might be useful for other needs to kill two birds with one stone.

Clear Vinyl Plastic Panels
Will Block 97% of porch pollen but also provides weather protection

Clear Vinyl Panels are made of a flexible marine-marine grade vinyl plastic. They are commonly used in conjunction with a space heater to create a warm space during the winter months. They are perfectly dense and while there are tiny incidental gaps around the edges, it will keep 97% of the pollen off your porch. Removable panels are generally hung in the late fall as temperatures drop. Once pollen season is over, they are removed and stored. Read more.

Summer Insect Curtains
Will Block 85% of porch pollen but also provides insect protection

While not as effective as Vinyl panels, insect curtains will still block a majority of the pollen while offering insect protections during bug season. The amount of pollen block will depend upon the tightness of the mesh. The larger the hole count per square inch, the smaller the hole size will be. The best mesh to use is a no-see-um mesh that is used to block a very tiny biting fly commonly called a noseeum that has a hole count of over 800 holes per square inch. This mesh will block 85% of the pollen but will also protect you from biting insects.

Black no-see-um mesh offers outstanding visibility and we would not recommend white for this purpose for obvious reasons. Curtains are washable to clean dirt and pollen once pollen season is over. Read More.
