Most fabric covered awnings have a canvas top that ties to a metal frame. And you are right, with this type of attachment surface, neither Velcro nor tracking attachments will work, but curtain hooks will. Insert a curtain hook into the top binding of the curtain every 1 to 2 ft. Simply loop the hook over the ties that attach the canvas roof to the metal frame. Apply a bit of tension along the top binding between hooks so that the top binding will lay nice and flat. If you have an area where you need a tie but there isn't one, use a plastic cable tie (sometimes called "zip ties") that you can pick up at any hardware store.
If the roof line is sloped, you will have to phone in the order so that we can cut the pitch. Read more about sloped roof lines. While the roof line of the awning in the photo is pitched, the sides also have an additional horizontal bar providing a continuous level hanging surface. |

| Retractable awnings - These are very difficult to use and while we have made them at the insistence of a few clients, we don't know of any quality product that exists suitable for retractable awnings. We can make one that works if the awning is always extended, but it fails our standards for ease-of-use. Every time you extend or retract the awning, you must first remove most of the curtain. Once or twice isn't so bad, but after 8 times, you will want to jump off a cliff in frustration. |
| Underdecks |
Underdecks are routine applications and are treated like a normal application. Quite often there are gaps in the deck boards above. And while mosquitoes don't generally seek out gaps, it is a large surface area with a lot of gaps. The first suggestion is to not worry about the ceiling gaps and first see if you even have an issue. Progressive steps you can take in order of effort and cost are:
|
First you can install a reversible ceiling fan that directs airflow upward. Mosquitoes are terrible fliers and the slight breeze up through the gaps is often enough to keep them out. Another solution takes care of both the gaps and waterproofs your space all at the same time.
Underdeck ceilings can be waterproofed with panels that channel water through a gutter system. We seldom recommend other products; however, the best system we have found is www.undercoversystems.com They offer the most attractive panels using the best materials, the company is very well run, and the service is outstanding. We have researched the company, have visited the facility and are placing you in good hands. |
