Ordering FAQs:
What is the easiest way to find information on this website?
Go to the sitemap which is a good table of contents for the entire website.
What if I'm not happy with my mosquito netting curtain?
We offer a Money Back Guarantee. You will know immediately if it does not suit your needs. Return the undamaged contents of your order in the condition it was received within 4 weeks and we will refund your purchase price. Our most effective advertisement comes from satisfied customers. We're in the business of making people happy. Out of four thousand orders, thirteen have been returned for a full refund. The most common reason is that mama surprised papa with a new purchase, so please talk it over.
How do I know you are a reputable firm?
Our policy is that no curtain and certainly no money is worth the price of honor. We want you to be happy with us, even more so than our products. Call us if you like, you'll get that warm fuzzy feeling you're looking for. Read the testimonials that are 1000% genuine. A small business has no bureaucracy, no senseless policies. Talk to the owner directly (Kurt Jordan 770-645-4745).
How long will it take to receive my curtain?
Currently, 2-7 business days in the US. If this changes, we will repost (Enlarge delivery time map). We use Fedex Ground that clears its own Canadian Customs quickly and doesn't charge entry brokerage fees Estimated time is 3-5 days. All other international orders are typically 4-10 days.

What is in the attachment kit?
If you order Velcro attachment, you will receive adhesive-backed Velcro. If you order tracking you will receive mounting screws, carriers & curtain hooks, and belts to tie your curtain. For all orders, you will receive 8 neodymium magnets per curtain panel regardless of width as well as curtain hooks & eye-screws. If you are attaching to masonry, aluminum siding, or vinyl siding you should order an extra 8 neodymium magnets per panel. Read more.
What is your payment method?
Master Card, Visa, and American Express transactions are cleared securely by Intuit, the folks that bring you Quickbooks and Turbotax.
Can I order fractions of a foot ?
Yes. But remember, it will be within a 2" tolerance of your order. The store page only charges for "feet". The inches are free.
Should I order the extra magnets?
When in doubt, yes. They are inexpensive and you can always use them around the house. We often get follow-up orders for more high powered magnets. Magnets and other small hardware pieces are an ingestion hazard and should never be used around small children. Magnets that have been ingested are known to have caused digestive tract obstructions that can lead to serious injury and even death. Two magnets swallowed over a period of time have pinched internal tissues requiring surgery. If you have small children, view this video. Marine snaps can almost always be used in lieu of magnets. We want you safe!
Will my curtain automatically come with side bindings. And what the heck are they any ways?
Yes, your curtain will come bound on all 4 sides. A binding provides a sturdy finished edge. Our binding material is 2 inches wide and resembles a seat belt. We fold this material in half like a taco, tuck the netting inside and double-stitch it.
Do side bindings have Velcro attached?
No. You seal the sides with magnets, marine snaps, or curtain hooks & eye-screws as most people do not want adhesive-backed Velcro running up the side of their house in a visible location. However, within reason, we'll make just about anything you like.
Can you make custom orders?
Absolutely. Theoretically, we can make mosquito netting curtains 300-yards high by 300-yards long. We have satisfied many unusual requests. We've made screen doors for air lines, screened horse pens, batting cages, industrial doors, restaurant partitions, and even artistic fabric sculptures for events. You'll never know unless you ask.
Will you sell raw netting without bindings?
Yes. Raw netting doesn't include any bindings or attachment kit. Some folks are handy and want to create their own solution.
What are Shipping charges?
Use the price estimate calculator to estimate both curtain cost and shipping charges.
Where are you located?
8601 Dunwoody Place, Suite 442, Atlanta, GA 30350
Will I pay a sales tax?
No. Only Georgia residents are obliged to pay sales tax of 7%. International orders pay normal customs duties and any local tax.
Effectiveness FAQs:
Will the netting work for other flying insects?
Yes. There are 270 holes per square inch with each square 1/15-inch x 1/18-inch (200 hole count is required). Our curtains are popular in black fly and yellow fly regions. Our "no-see-um mesh" has an 800 hole count (600 hole count is required). We are very happy with the quality of our no-see-um mesh and we estimate clarity to be about 85% (far better than any competing product)
How long will my curtain last?
With proper care and seasonal use, about five years or more.
Can it be exposed to water and rain?
Yes. In fact, the netting acts as a limited rain barrier. When hit with rain, water tends to simply drip down the curtain.
Will mildew ruin it?
The polyester mosquito netting is one of the most mildew resistant materials on the market. Prolonged exposure to mildew will weaken it over time, perhaps shortening the life by one year. The good news is that you can wash your curtain and re-hang it. Mildew is easily washed out of the polyester netting if washed regularly (every 4-6 months of use).
How heavy is the curtain? Is the Velcro strong enough to hold?
It weighs about 3.2 ounces per linear foot (120" height). That's about 2lbs per 10 linear feet. The Velcro is more than strong enough to hold the weight. Be sure to reinforce the top corners of your curtain panels with a curtain hook & eye-screw. Velcro will only pull away from one end and never from the middle. In fact, when we were filmed for HGTV's "I Want That," we stood ten feet from the curtain and, with all our strength, threw a softball at the curtain. What happened? Poof ...nothing.
What about really heavy winds like hurricanes?
Glad you asked. You can remove the curtain in minutes, hardly an option for a permanently screened-in porch. Insurance companies do not insure screen porches in storm prone areas of the country. A common recommendation to minimize structural damage to permanent screen rooms is to slice holes in the porch screening to allow the wind to freely pass. The next challenge is to find a post-storm contractor to re-screen at a cost generally greater than the price of a curtain.
Will it be effective in high temperatures or direct sunlight?
Yes. Unless you have a vacation home on Venus, temperature does not affect the operation of the mosquito netting. All materials are made of UV protected materials including thread. The adhesive used on your hook-sided Velcro strip will soften at temperatures above 125 degrees. Arizona is a big client base for us and many also use the curtain as a sunshade.
Can I exit and enter a single span curtain? Where is the doorway?
Yes. On a single span curtain, the doorway will be where the end adjoins a structural wall. Single span curtains potentially have two points of egress at either side edge.
Can you summarize the progressive steps required to secure the bottom of the curtain under windy conditions?
Remember that the most effective way to keep the curtain down is to apply horizontal tension along the base of the curtain. If you keep the bottom corners of any panel down, the entire curtain panel will stay down. To keep the base of the curtain down, pull the bottom corners horizontally away from each other and the curtain will stay down. This is why we prefer that the curtain go around any support columns and railings.
If you are forced to make an "inside hang" in front of the support columns, you suspend an elastic cord at any corners from floor to ceiling, just inside the support column. Many of the photo gallery examples demonstrate an inside hang. This suspended elastic cord gives the curtain something to "go around". Now pulling on the bottom of the curtain will create horizontal tension along the base of the curtain. There are other uses of elastic cord that we explain below.

Curtain hooks & eye screws, marine snaps, and magnets
Marine snaps along the bottom binding (you must specify bottom binding with your curtain) are the best way to secure the base of the curtain under particularly breezy conditions. Marine snaps can be placed every 8-10ft with a bit of horizontal tension and often at the base of vertical support columns. Marine snaps can be used on any side binding as well, however, if the side binding has frequent in-and-out traffic, use the neodymium magnets. Curtain hooks and eye-screws are flexible and simple to use with the same anchoring principal as marine snaps but not as "clean looking".
Remember, small gaps caused by wind are of very minor consequence. Mosquitoes are terrible fliers. They tumble when they try to fly in the wind. A 15 mph gust that exposes as much as a gap might accidentally suck a lucky skeeter in, but no mosquito would intentionally fly in. Remember the Bernoulli principle and wind?
Neodymium magnets
Neodymium magnets are also useful. Hammer a roofing nail into any wooden surface and place the magnet, over the netting over the nail. If you have masonry or vinyl siding, you can glue a magnet (with a strong adhesive like Liquid Nails) instead of using a roofing nail. Fiberglass rods inserted into the side bindings stiffen the edge and make the magnets more efficient.
Marine Snaps
Marine snaps are easy to attach to any binding using a special tool that we provide with any marine snap order. Punch a hole into the binding, insert button post, overlay the female snap over the post, and flare the post using a hammer and easy-to-use flaring tool. The male snap is attached to a "screw stud" that will screw into most surfaces. These snaps are commonly found in boating tarps and truck-bed covers.
Custom ideas
An exclusive resort (that felt that guests weren't on vacation to think about Bernoulli, wind and mosquitoes) really wanted the base of the curtain tightly secured around a raised concrete patio, asked us to devise a system. We sewed a bottom valance binding and binding loops every 2' feet and threaded elastic cord through the loops. Long story short, we fixed the problem. Feel free to call us. Together, we'll think of a solution.
A Customer Idea
While weights are not our method of choice, a customer recently shared this interesting solution. He asked us to cut the height and bind the bottom of his black no-see-um curtain and stitch loop-sided Velcro on the bottom binding. We also sent him some adhesive-backed hook-sided Velcro that he attached to a piece of PVC that he filled with water (or sand)....capped the ends...and painted black. His homemade weighting system was effective and easily removable. Marine snaps will also work effectively by snapping the base of the curtain to a wood strip or weight.
Mini Spring Clamps
Mini spring clamps look like miniature "jumper cable clamps" you use to charge your car battery. They are 2-inches long and have a hole in one handle so that you can screw them to a fixed wooden surface. The clamp pincers will clip on to any valance binding including two adjacent panels.
More Elastic
Another use for the elastic cord is to suspend it ceiling to floor right next to any support column so that the curtain is pinched between the elastic and the column. When no support column is available, use two elastic cords side by side to pinch the curtain. As verbose as I've been, I think I covered most of it. I am certain we will come up with even more ideas this season.
Curtain Care FAQs:
How frequently will I need to wash my mosquito netting curtain?
As often as you find necessary. Generally, once or twice a season.
Can I wash it in a standard washing machine?
Yes. A normal machine will accommodate a 40ft curtain. Most professional cleaners can accommodate it and will neatly fold it for you for about $40.
Can I iron the netting?
Yes, but it is generally not necessary. Instructions for ironing are included in your kit. You can iron the netting several layers at the same time by folding it before ironing. Polyester has a high melt point, but always be careful not to scorch.
Will the raw netting unravel when washed?
Not with normal use. The netting material is a carefully selected 100% polyester. The squares of the mesh are woven together and and heat sealed so it will not unravel when washed. Pulling exposed threads will cause unraveling.
What will cause the curtain to snag?
It is not easily snagged with normal use. Remember it is not stretched taut over a frame so it has plenty of "give". But if you are determined, it will snag on sharp objects including nails, thorns, and prickly stucco. The no-see-um mesh is more snag resistant than the mosquito mesh. Also, try to avoid contact between the hook-sided strip and the netting.
Installation FAQs:
What is the quality of the mosquito netting?
The mosquito netting is very high quality. It is 20% heavier than standard netting of this unique loom type. It is substantially higher quality than what you might find used in camping equipment or the polypropylene netting found on the wrought iron gazebo kits that have become popular.
Doesn't a white curtain get dirty easily?
Surprisingly not. Remember that the netting has about 20% of the density of a bed sheet, so it doesn't hold dirt like a solid fabric. White and Ivory don't seem to show any more dirt than black. It is a good idea to wash the curtain once or twice per season.
How translucent is The Mosquito Curtain?
Without being scientific, white/ivory has about 75-80% clarity. If you have the eyesight to see a quarter on the sidewalk at 40 ft, you'll be able to see the quarter through the curtain. The black has about 95% clarity. No-see-um is about 85% clarity. Visibility is always better when the light is brighter on the opposite side of the curtain relative to the observer. See chart.
I can't decide on black mosquito mesh or black no-see-um mesh ?
Our black no-see-um mesh is truly a miracle fabric. It is more durable and is incredibly gorgeous. The only drawback is that it has slightly less visibility (85% vs 95%) and it catches the wind a bit more. You will need to give a bit more attention when securing it. If you order optional tracking, we recommend always using the no-see-um fabric as you simply draw the curtains back in high winds.
What types of porches do not accommodate The Mosquito Curtain?
Virtually all porches will accommodate The Mosquito Curtain. At times, a little improvising is required. We have yet to encounter a porch that is unsuitable for the mosquito netting curtain. Email us questions or photos and we'll help you out. Send an e-mail to support@mosquitocurtains.com or call us at 866-622-0916 or 770-645-4745 from 8am-9pm EST. Feel free to fax us a diagram at 770-645-4746.
What do I do if my porch has unusual support columns with column caps that stick out?
This is not uncommon especially in "bungalow-style" homes. If you can attach the curtain high enough over the protruding column caps (10 to 12inches), the curtain will flow over the caps. Quite often, an inside hang using tracking solves this problem, too. This is because the curved tracking "cuts" the corner which is generally enough to avoid the protruding column caps. If this is not possible, you can use either method below or both methods together. Be sure to view our Photo Examples. Read more about irregularly-shaped columns.
Method A: (When the columns are less than 10 feet apart)
Take a 1-inch x 1/2-inch x 10-foot piece of wood. Span the wood across the outer edge of your column caps. Attach your hook-sided Velcro strip to this long piece of wood. The span of wood need only be lightly attached with a couple of screws and perhaps a center support bracket. During the season when you remove the screen curtain, you can also remove the entire span of wood. If you do not feel like painting a piece of wood, wander around The Home Depot. There are a number of inexpensive white metal moldings and shelving strips that will substitute nicely.
Method B: (When the columns are more than 10 feet apart)
Cut a piece of wood to go on top of the portion of the column cap that is protruding. The piece of wood need only be 1-inch thick. Hang your curtain from the ceiling, inner face or outer face of your porch. When you reach the protruding column cap, simply go around it by attaching the adhesive-backed hook-sided Velcro Strip to the outer edge of the piece of wood on top of your column cap.
Will The Mosquito Curtain work on tents, umbrellas, and awnings?
Yes, except fo retractable awnings. We can get it to look nice and function on retractable awnings, but it is a pain to use.
Is it appropriate for the space beneath decks?
Absolutely
What if I can't adhere Velcro strips to my surface because of stucco or masonry?
You have a number of options. One solution is to use a marine snap that can be screwed into masonry. A second option would be to use a thin strip of 1 inch x 1/2 inch x 10 foot length of molding. Hang the molding using brackets or screws then apply the Velcro, or any of the attachment methods, onto the wood strip.
Lastly, You can glue neodymium magnets to your surface, attach a second magnet to a side or bottom binding and seal your curtain. Magnets used in conjunction with fiberglass rods inserted into side bindings create an efficient seal that is simple and requires no drilling.
Does the mosquito netting need to be completely sealed to be effective?
No. While we do our best to help you achieve a complete seal, small gaps are not a major problem. Mosquitoes are terrible fliers, and not very determined when given an obstacle. They tend to fly directly to their hosts. Gaps are more common during windy conditions when mosquitoes have the most difficulty maneuvering and, in practice, gaps are of very little consequence. With all this said, we do our best to give you the peace of mind of a good seal.
Can the mosquito netting be cut for the specific height of my porch?
Yes. You are given easy instructions showing you how to make a straight cut at home by following the squares of the netting mesh. Since every porch is different, you will have the flexibility of making the necessary cut to match the configuration of your porch.
Should the adhesive-backed Velcro be cut into strips or be continuous?
Any way you like, however, if you opt for strips, don't space them more than 6 inches apart. We provide hook-sided adhesive Velcro the same length as your curtain so you certainly have the option to attach a continuous strip.
What are the dimensions of your curtain tracking?
Tracking is 5/8" wide and 1/2" deep. Straight track is 7' long. Curved tracking is a 12" radius and each leg measures 15" from the corner or your porch. It is made of extruded aluminum and will not rust. In addition, tracking can be easily cut with a hacksaw.
How is the tracking mounted?
Tracking is ceiling mounted (screws go directly upward into your ceiling). No brackets are required. It is a very simple installation with 3 screws per straight track and 1-2 screws per curved track. Splices are like the plastic tongues on "Hot Wheels" racing tracks (if you played with them as a child). Splices keep the tracking aligned so that the carriers can pass freely. It is remarkably simple.
Is there a gap between the curtain and the tracking?
Yes, there is always a very slight gap on any tracking system, however, on all tracking orders, we sew a 1" coverage valance at the top of the curtain in lieu of Velcro to cover a 1/2 " gap created by the carriers which will greatly minimize the gap into insignificance. If you have originally purchased your curtain configured for Velcro attachment, and later decide to purchase tracking, we will reconfigure your curtain to close the gap. With all this said, we cover this gap to give you peace of mind.
What if I don't have a straight path to hang the curtain?
Some porches have unusual outcroppings. In most cases, you can simply wrap around the obstacle. In other cases we can discuss more creative solutions.
What if the porch ceiling surface has differing heights?
Call us. We will help you.
Do I hang the curtain from the porch ceiling, inner, or outer ceiling face?
It's up to you. You may even alternate surfaces.
