1-Sided Exposure (straight shot)

Garages, French Doors, Single Exposure Alcoves

Your project will consist of 1 or more panels. The configuration diagrams to the right demonstrate three possibilities from an arial view (top view, plan view).

Principles to Remember

  • Measure only exposed height and width.  Then apply recommended adjustments (below)
  • Velcro is side-mounted to some surface while tracking is undermounted to some surface
  • It is common for a few inches of panel to hang off end of track to snap
  • A magnetic connection is easier to separate than a snap connection
  • Be sure to order tracking hardware and fasteners separately

Important Measurement Adjustments

The sum width of all your panels needs to be wider than your actual exposure for overlapping magnetic doors or overlapping a structural surface (like a wall or column) and a little more so that you can have a relaxed fit.

Hint:  First measure exposed widths of entire sides, THEN divide your project into individual panels.  Check your math so that:

(sum of all sides) = (sum of all panels)

Finally, make the recommended adjustments to EACH panel as recommended below.  Watching the video example will really help.

Width Adjustments

  • First, Automatically add 2-inches per panel regardless of width, then
  • Add another 1-inch per panel for EACH edge that will snap to some surface
  • Subtract 1-in for EACH edge connecting a Stucco Strip, and ignore width of stucco strip

Height Adjustments

  • Tracking - Measure from underside of track mounting surface to floor (NO adjustments)
  • Velcro - Add 2" to height of just the exposed "hole" for 1" overlap on both top and bottom

L-Shaped Exposure

Your project will consist of 1 or more panels. The configuration diagrams to the right demonstrate general concepts and possibilities from an arial view (plan view or satellite view). You can create any configuration of your choosing using these concepts.

Principles to Remember

  • Identify a clear path and then measure along that same path. Measure twice and check your math
  • It is common for a few inches of panel to hang off end of track to snap
  • Do not magnet 2 panels that come together at a right angle (weak hold)
  • Panels cannot end at an irregularly-shaped Corner column.  Panels MUST straddle an irregularly-shaped CORNER column
  • If corner columns are regular (like a 4x4 post), consider an exterior path and break panels snapping them independently to the outside faces of corner posts

  • Add another 1-inch per panel for EACH edge that will snap to some surface
  • Subtract 1-in for EACH edge connecting a Stucco Strip, and ignore width of stucco strip
  • For Tracking Attachment: Add another 1-in per 10ft of panel width for relaxed fit.

Height Adjustments

  • Tracking - Measure from underside of track mounting surface to floor (NO adjustments)
  • Velcro - Add 2" to height of just the exposed height of "hole" for 1" overlap top and bottom
  • If height of a given panel varies by 2" or less, use taller height

U-Shaped Exposure

Your project will consist of 1 or more panels (generally 4 panels or stucco strps). The configuration diagrams to the right demonstrate general concepts and possibilities from an arial view (plan view or satellite view). You can create any configuration of your choosing using these concepts.

Principles to Remember

  • Identify a clear path and then measure along that same path. Measure twice and check your math

Important Measurement Adjustments

The sum width of all your panels needs to be wider than your actual exposure for overlapping magnetic doors or overlapping a structural surface (like a wall or column) and a little more so that you can have a rlaxed fit.

Hint:  First measure exposed widths of entire sides, THEN divide your project into individual panels.  Check your math so that:

(sum of all sides) = (sum of all panels)

Finally, make the recommended adjustments to EACH panel as recommended below.  Watching the video example will really help.

Free-Standing Structures

Rectangular Shapes

Your project will consist of 1 or more panels. The configuration diagrams to the right demonstrate general concepts and possibilities from an arial view (plan view or satellite view). You can create any configuration of your choosing using these concepts. For Octogons and Hexegons strongly consider Velcro attachment taking a path outside your columns.

Principles to Remember

  • Identify a clear path and then measure along that same path. Measure twice and check your math

3-Sided Exposure - Flat Roof

For Wrap Around Porches, Imagine Another Side and Use These Concepts

Your project will consist of 1 or more panels. The configuration diagrams to the right demonstrate general concepts and possibilities from an arial view (plan view or satellite view). You can create any configuration of your choosing using these concepts.

You Will Need Assistance

These are tricky and we want to help. Folks are tempted to track these and split panels for decorative swags at each column. It looks great when the curtains are gathered back into swags, but you'll also be looking at a lot of seams instead of that great view. We have a simpler method that is considerably less expensive. How to prepare

Remember that the black mosquito mesh is crystal clear to see through. While they won't slide or gather at all using a Fixed Velcro® attachment, in actuality, folks draw curtains far less than they anticipate. The space stays protected at all times.

The challenge is that this is a giant "soup can label" and measurements need to be spot on. In the first diagram, we use a 2 panel configuration with one magnetic split for entry. The other ends overlap a column where we are able to allow for some error equal to the width of the column and still create a seal with marine snaps. While your intuition may fight you on this recommendation, plenty of clients have been very happy with the results and savings.

Tents & Awnings

Top attachment is unique and doesn't use track or Velcro®. Instead, we space grommets along the top of the curtain panels that you "zip tie" to the horizontal bar overhead. You can still create magnetic doorways but the curtains won't slide from side to side.

Clients usually select "Black" Mosquito Curtains since they are crystal clear to see through. The best path is to go around the outside of your vertical columns to give your curtains some skeletal structure to brace panels in the wind. Panels should straddle corner columns rather than terminate at corner columns.

You will need our assistance and should NOT order directly online.

Why Not Retractable Awnings?

There is no good way to do a retractable awning and still be able to open and close the awning. We've tried, we've even brought one into the shop to test. Each time you retract the awning, you have to completely remove the netting. Round trip for removing and rehanging is about 30 minutes. I promise, you will be wasting your money and will want to throw yourself off a cliff in frustration. The only way to screen a retractable awning and still have the ability to retract the awning is to create a super structure over the awning.

Only Quality Fabricated Mosquito Netting

This is a very high quality mosquito netting made from marine-grade materials. You could jump off your roof and let the firemen catch you in our netting that is 450 denier (thread weight). We use the same coloring process as Sunbrella® so our materials do not fade. In addition to mosquito netting, we also carry no-see-um mesh and a lovely shade mesh.
