Awnings

Most fixed awnings have a canvas top that ties to a metal frame. With this type of attachment surface, neither Velcro® tape nor tracking attachments will work, but we have curtain hooks (drapery pins) that will.

Insert a curtain hook into the top binding of the curtain every 1 to 2 ft. Simply loop the hook over the ties that attach the canvas roof to the metal frame. Apply a bit of tension along the top binding between hooks so that the top binding will lay nice and flat. If you have an area where you need a tie but there isn't one, use a plastic cable tie (sometimes called "zip ties") that you can pick up at any hardware store. We like outside hangs (around the outside of your vertical supports for these fabric topped awnings.

If the hanging surface is sloped, we will need to cut the pitch. While the roof line of the awning may be pitched, quite often awnings have an additional horizontal bar providing a continuous level hanging surface for rectangular curtain panels.

Scalloped Aluminum Awnings These are best attached using an outside hang with Velcro® tape attachment. the adhesive backed Velcro needs to be applied horizontally just above the peak of a scallop. In addition, we need to protect the netting from rubbing against the bottom edge of the scallop, that over time, is like a knife edge.

We have a speciall littly trick for these where we sew a very heavy 4 inch binding to the top of the curtain that can withstand the sharp edge. You will need to call in this order and simply tell us you have a "Scalloped aluminum awning."

Retractable Awnings These are very difficult to use and while we have made them at the insistence of a few clients, we don't know of any quality product that exists suitable for retractable awnings. We can make one that works if the awning is always extended, but it fails our standards for ease-of-use. Every time you extend or retract the awning, you must first remove most of the curtain. Once or twice isn't so bad, but after 8 times, you will want to jump off a cliff in frustration.
