Clear Vinyl Plastic panels are perfectly dense since they are designed to block the chilly breeze. They are different from our summer mosquito netting curtains which will allow air flow through the netting. For this reason, clear vinyl winter panels need to be better secured and we want to see a digital photo to make sure they are configured correctly.. Clear vinyl requires heavy pressure for extrusion and rolls are limited to 75" roll widths. Most porches are taller than 75", so we have 2 choices. We can either create 75" wide panels that are interconnected using Velcro with a height of your choosing. Or, we rotate the clear vinyl 90 degrees whereby the top 75" of the panel are clear vinyl and the bottom of the panel is a heavy sunbrella canvas. Practically speaking, we can fabricate single panels 10ft tall x 50ft wide. Why 16mil? Mainly because it comes in 75" wide rolls. 20mil comes only in 54" wide rolls requiring more seams. 16 mil shrinks less and the heat insulation difference between the two is only marginal. One major reason 20mil is commonly used is to avoid perforation when the vinyl is stitched. We reinforce the seams with a nylon border prior to stitching such that the effective thickness of the borders prior to sewing are about 50mil to avoid perforation. Securing Clear Vinyl Panels. We request a digital photo for all Clear Vinyl applications so that we can configure attachment hardware specifically to your application. Clear Vinyl is perfectly dense and must be well rigged for wind. Clear Vinyl panels should be opened in wind speeds greater than 25mph to avoid damage to panels. Tracking is possible but we want to describe some practicalities. Clear vinyl plastic panels are a more functional product than decorative. Clear vinyl panels are stiffer, they don't swag easily and unlike our summer netting curtains, they don't make for particularly pretty swags any ways. Because Clear Vinyl is perfectly dense, doorway panels are sealed using Velcro® tape stitched to side bindings. Panels taller than 81" require a canvas apron along the base Unless your porch is less than 81" tall, we must add a canvas apron to the base. The material is the very best heavy Sunbrella® material. The top 6ft of the curtain is clear vinyl and the difference to the floor is the Sunbrella apron.
